Spanish Immersion
William H Owen is proud to continue the Language Immersion Program for students who will be entering Kindergarten and those continuing the program in First through Fifth Grade for the 2020-2021 school year. Through this program students will learn to understand, speak, read and write in Spanish as well as English. For more information read below, or call the school at (910) 425-6163.
About the Spanish Immersion Program
Classroom instruction will be taught by a teacher who is fluent in Spanish with the exception of resource classes in Art, Music, Media, Guidance, Computers and Literacy. Children are encouraged in their speech to use Spanish vocabulary and expressions. Parents are advised to encourage reading in English at home.
In second grade students will begin receiving one hour of English instruction daily. In the curriculum, all Spanish Immersion students will be taught the same North Carolina state standards as other Cumberland County schools. This will prepare our students to achieve and to perform well on state assessments, which will be administered in English.
